Have you ever heard of a man called Gary Vaynerchuk? You probably have even without realising!

As a child he used to sell lemonade from his “big wheel bicycle” – heck he even sold lemonade stand franchises to his neighbours! Then in high school he made thousands buying and selling baseball cards.

But his early efforts as an entrepreneur were abruptly scuppered when his dad insisted that he give up his enterprises, take a massive pay cut and work in the family liquor store for just $2 an hour!

Like a good son, he spent nights and weekends working the family business but he was always thinking outside the box! One day it hit him:

People collect wine just like they collect baseball cards!

So he educated himself, sneaking wine magazines into his classes and reading everything that he could get his hands on. This was around the same time as he discovered a new concept: The internet.

In 1997 he persuaded his Father to let him create the Wine Library, and took the family business online – he grew that business from $3 Million in sales to over $60 Million, making it an international leader in the wine business.

Then YouTube happened and he launched a video blog, and became a superstar with his loud and brutally honest style.

To cut a long story short he is now a best selling author, a sought-after public speak, a venture capitalist, and a business consultant, helping big companies boost their brands using social media. He crushed it by being himself, being passionate and using technology to change the world.

And you can too!

Hey there! My name is Emma Johnson, and …

… three years ago I had no idea about computers much less how to use the Internet to build my business.

Since then I have built multiple businesses online and haven’t looked back.

I am going to share with you the five tips that have launched my success on social media – they probably will go against everything that you have been taught, but trust me …

…if I can completely turn my network marketing business around then so can you!

Here we go:

1. Stop Beating Yourself Up

We are entrepreneurs and that makes us a little bit special! We are passionate and driven about what we do.

When things don’t work out the way we want, or when things aren’t happening as quickly as we would like, we tend to beat ourselves up about it!

That’s a common problem amongst entrepreneurs!

I recently had a conversation with someone on my team and they said …

  • “I expected to be farther along than this by now”

Sound familiar? Perhaps you have caught yourself thinking or feeling exactly the same!  So I said to them …

  • “Sometimes you need to just stop for a moment and see how far you have actually come, because I have seen huge growth in you over the last 12 months”

So, STOP beating yourself up, instead, celebrate how far you have come.

2. Follow Up With More Posture

If you think that someone will be good at your business, regardless of their background, never stop following up with them.

Now I don’t mean that you should slam them with stuff all day, every day for the rest of your life!

What I do mean is that once that initial contact is over, and you have had a “yes” or “no” from that person, put them on a monthly follow-up list.

BUT … don’t just reach out to talk about the business. Make sure to build that relationship.

Talk to them about their life …

  • “Hey, how are the kids?”
  • “How are things?”
  • “How is work going?”

And once in a while, you can talk about the business. Just keep the relationship going. Occasionally, your follow up conversation might be something like …

  • “Hey, how’s life? I know you said that you weren’t interested, but do you know anyone that would like xyz or someone who wants to create an extra income each month?”

Just remember that the people that you think would be good at your business probably have friends just like you or them! Make sure to come from a confident posture and ask for the referral.

Now, if people get nasty (and I am afraid some do!), then obviously you don’t need them. Have the confidence and posture not to recruit them.

They aren’t allowed on your team at that point, because you don’t want to surround yourself with negative, hateful people.

Here is where you have the confidence to say …

” You know what? You are absolutely right. NO, you are NOT a good fit for my business”

Don’t put them on your follow up list, you don’t need them … make them need you with your posture.

3. Be The Person You Want to Attract

Truth time! Have you ever found yourself saying things like …

  • “Nobody watches my lives”
  • “Nobody is commenting”
  • “I am not getting enough likes”
  • “Nobody is clicking on my links”

It is OK – you wouldn’t be the first person!

I used to!

But ask yourself this …

  • Are you clicking their links?
  • Are you sharing other people’s content?
  • Are you liking other people’s posts?
  • Are you leaving comments?

You need to be the person that you want to attract! Here is the thing

Make sure to set aside 15-20 minutes every single day to comment, like and share other people’s content. That is how social media works!

If you are the one reaching out to other people, you are going to attract people who want to reach out to you.

When Gary first started his Wine Library videos he was just some loudmouth liquor store guy, but he acted like the expert he wanted to become, people started noticing and so people from all over the world started coming to him for advice and opinions.

They were attracted to him because they knew that they could count on him to provide an honest passionate opinion.

Become the go-to person in your niche.

4. Raise More Curiosity

You probably already know this, but you want people to come to you, you want them to be attracted to you, instead of repelled by spam on your NewsFeed

So how do you raise more curiosity than resistance?

Firstly, if people can find out what company you are with, either on your personal profile, or your fan page you have already lost the battle.

Here’s why …

People will go to Google and type in your company name and they will always find something negative. It’s true, no matter what company you represent. You can even research Christmas and find something negative!

Welcome to the Internet! It is the reality that we live and work in.

Make sure that your company is your biggest secret

Don’t let people find it on your page or profile, do this with intention. If you give people the opportunity to research about you or your company without first talking to you, then you have lost the battle.

A. You didn’t even know they were interested in joining your business and

B. based on all of the negative stuff that they unearthed about your company or industry they have made an automatic, uneducated decision about you and what you stand for.

So here’s a tip!

Take off the swag, hide the company logo, don’t have the company name in the background of photos etc.

If you are doing any of that, stop right now!

Remember, network marketing is a relationship business, posting things like …

  • Join me now or
  • Buy my products

… automatically turns most people off.

The whole purpose of social media marketing is to …

Seek conversations, not conversions!

Build those relationships, be a friend first.

Create curiosity through conversation, and then look for opportunities to shift the conversation to conversion.

Become the problem solver. When you point to a result that you have had or a tool that you are using, people start to listen to you.

That is a much smoother, more natural approach than spamming “Hey, join my team!”

People don’t join a company because of the products, or even the company! They join because they know, like and trust you – and they believe in what you can help them achieve.

5. Use Technology

The whole point of technology is to make our lives easier, but sometimes we get ourselves so caught up in the techy stuff that we actually forget to build our businesses!

We spend so much time figuring out the algorithm that we don’t actually get round to posting anything!

Basically we spend all our time getting ready to get ready and actually end up producing nothing!

All we really need to do is just get started, keep it simple, just talk to people. In this internet age, that does not just mean opening your mouth, it means writing a text, a message, creating a video, or a voicenote, posting a status … the list goes on.

Stop getting ready to get ready

Don’t waste time trying to figure out the algorithm, it doesn’t matter. The only thing that does matter is that you take consistent action every single day.

Don’t get caught up in things that don’t matter. Avoid the overwhelm, Just start small, you are trying to build your business, put one foot in front of the other, and talk to people every day.

If you are consistent, you will start to notice that you don’t have to chase people down or beg them to join your business. People will start coming to you because they are getting to know, like and trust you.

Just remember a few years ago I had no idea how to build my business online, but I got past it and so can you.

Here’s what I did …

Success is all about taking action

It is not about thinking, “Wow that is awesome” and then doing nothing!

So if you are ready to use social media to build your business online, you have a choice to make.

You could continue …

  • Beating yourself up
  • Begging and pleading with people to join your business
  • Thinking that you will never be good enough to attract, much less talk to the “big fish”
  • Spamming your news feed and contacts
  • Getting ready to get ready to use the technology, to the point that you avoid talking to people altogether …

Or …

You could use a new, low-resisance and rejection-free alternative to traditional network marketing techniques …

… to absolutely explode your business by talking to people on social media using Facebook Messenger (you know, that app that about 1.3 billion people have in their pocket!).
